THE CLIENT CONVERSATION

Why does investor
psychology matter right now?

The harder moment comes when a client feels anxious, becomes overconfident or is ready to depart from a long-term plan.

In this one-day program, Ron William shows private banking professionals how to spot these patterns early and handle the conversation without losing sight of the client’s long-term goals.

THE BEHAVIOUR GAP

Markets can perform. Investors can still fall behind.

DALBAR’s cash-flow-based measure shows how the timing of purchases, redemptions and exchanges can affect realised returns. In 2024, the average equity investor earned 16.54% while the S&P 500 returned 25.02%—the second-largest gap of the decade.

For advisers, the relevance shows up in familiar conversations: a client wants to sell after a sharp fall, chase the latest winner or abandon a long-term plan. Knowing the bias is useful. Knowing what to say next is what protects the quality of the decision.

THE BEHAVIOUR GAP

Why does investor
psychology matter right now?

Ron connects the behavioural science to situations advisers know well: portfolio reviews, product recommendations and calls during volatile markets. Participants practise how to read the situation and respond more effectively.

1

Recognise the pattern earlier

A one-day program on the psychology behind investment decisions — the biases, decision styles, and typologies that shape whether a client says yes to a recommendation, or doesn’t.

2

Understand how the client decides

Use investor typologies and decision styles to adapt how you explain a recommendation—without changing its suitability, risks or trade-offs.

3

Frame choices more clearly
Apply choice-architecture principles responsibly so clients can see how an individual recommendation fits their wider portfolio and objectives.

4

Make behavioural awareness a habit
Bring a bias-aware lens into meeting preparation, portfolio reviews and volatile-market conversations as part of sound advisory judgment.
Tell us about your role or team, and we’ll help you decide whether the program is a good fit.

QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU DECIDE

What to know before you register.

What is investor psychology?

Investor psychology examines how emotion, cognitive bias and perception influence financial decisions. In advisory work, it helps explain why a client may panic-sell, chase recent performance, hold a losing position or delay a decision even when the underlying facts are unchanged.

No. You do not need a psychology background. Ron applies the concepts to advisory work through investor typologies, case studies, role-play scenarios and responsible choice framing.

The program is designed for relationship managers, investment consultants, senior client advisers, fund specialists and portfolio managers working with private-banking and wealth-management clients.
