Self leadership is the ability to take ownership of your goals, development needs and workplace performance. It helps professionals recognise where they need support, ask for clear direction and take initiative instead of waiting to be developed.

It equips relationship managers, product specialists, compliance executives and technology professionals with practical personal leadership skills. Participants learn how to diagnose their development needs, challenge assumed constraints and prepare for more effective conversations with their managers. Why do high performers stall — and what can they do about it themselves?
Most professional development is something that happens to you — your manager decides what training you need, what feedback to give, what opportunities to offer. Self Leadership flips that. It’s a set of skills and a mindset for taking ownership of your own development: diagnosing what you actually need, asking for it directly, and having more effective conversations with your manager about your growth and performance.
Built on Blanchard’s Self Leadership program — which extends the world’s most widely taught leadership model, SLII®, to the individual contributor — this program gives financial industry professionals across every function a common language for self-development, and the practical skills to act on it immediately.
70%
of the variance in team engagement traces back to the manager — the flip side being that employees who proactively communicate their own development needs help close that gap

What will you walk away with?
Be equipped with the right mindset and skillset to become a proactive self-starter — someone who knows how to ask for direction and support, solicit feedback, and pitch solutions rather than waiting to be told.
Have a common language for discussing self-development and performance — making conversations with your manager more effective, more honest, and less awkward.
Diagnose your own development needs accurately — recognising your development level for specific tasks or goals, and knowing what kind of support actually helps.
Build more trusting, open relationships with managers — through structured one-on-one conversations grounded in a shared framework both sides understand.
Challenge your assumed constraints and identify your points of power — recognizing limiting beliefs that hold you back, and the sources of influence and initiative available to you regardless of title or seniority.
What does the program cover?
Five modules across three perspective shifts — Portfolio Manager, Investment Advisor, and Private Banker — through collaborative group exercises and real-world case analysis.
[LEARN] Mindset and Skillset of a SELF Leader
- Mindset of a SELF Leader — the underlying beliefs and orientations that distinguish proactive self-leaders from those who wait to be developed: ownership, initiative, and a growth orientation toward your own career.
- Skillset of a SELF Leader — the practical capabilities that operationalize that mindset: diagnosing your own needs, communicating them clearly, and taking the first step in development conversations.
- Challenge My Assumed Constraints — identifying the limiting beliefs (‘I can’t ask for that,’ ‘that’s not my role’) that quietly restrict what you pursue, and testing whether they’re actually true.
- Points of Power — understanding the sources of influence and initiative available to you regardless of formal title or seniority, and how to use them constructively.
- Goal Setting — setting goals that are specific enough to diagnose your development needs against, and to have meaningful conversations about progress.
[PRACTICE] Applying Self Leadership to Real Situations
- Diagnose My Developmental Needs — applying the SLII® development level framework to your own current goals and tasks, identifying where you’re developing vs where you’re already competent.
- What Support Do I Need? — translating your development level into a specific request: do you need direction, coaching, support, or autonomy for this particular goal?
- Asking for the Support I Need — the practical communication skills for making that request to your manager clearly, confidently, and in a way that’s easy for them to respond to.
- One-on-One Conversations — applying everything to a real one-on-one conversation structure you can use with your manager, creating a shared language for ongoing development discussions.
- Personal Application — committing to specific, real actions you’ll take following the workshop, grounded in your own current role and goals.
- Overview of SELF Leadership Mastery Tools — the resources available through the Blanchard Exchange Learner Portal to sustain and deepen these skills after the workshop.

Frequently asked questions
How is this different from the SLII Leadership program?
Is this suitable for non-client-facing roles like Technology or Compliance?
Yes — this is one of the few programs in our portfolio explicitly designed for cross-functional audiences. Self Leadership skills (diagnosing your own development needs, asking for support, goal setting) are role-agnostic. Product Specialists, Program Executives, Compliance Executives, and Technology Specialists all benefit equally, and a shared vocabulary across functions also improves cross-team collaboration.
What does FTS funding cover — and why is the net fee S$700?
FTS funding is available only to eligible company-sponsored individuals.
- Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents: 30% funding support.
- Singapore Citizens aged 40 and above: 70% funding support.
- Funding support for the same course is granted only once per calendar year per participant.
- One-off industry-related events, such as conferences and seminars, are not eligible for FTS funding.
