4 CPD hours

Half Day

Strategic philanthropy advisory helps private bankers connect a client’s values with a structured giving plan. It goes beyond selecting a charity. Advisers explore the client’s purpose, legacy goals, preferred causes, family involvement and desired impact. They then work with legal, tax, investment and philanthropy specialists to identify suitable approaches.

This half-day strategic philanthropy course in Singapore equips private bankers and relationship managers to lead those conversations with confidence. Participants use the G.I.V.E. Framework to uncover philanthropic intent, compare giving structures and turn broad ambitions into measurable goals. In addition, they learn how impact investing may complement charitable giving. No previous philanthropy experience is required.

Advisor reviewing philanthropy documents with a client during a legacy planning conversation.

What does a private banker say when a client asks, 'What should my wealth stand for?'

Philanthropy conversations used to be a niche. Now, with intergenerational wealth transfers accelerating and HNW clients increasingly values-driven, they’re becoming a core expectation of sophisticated wealth advisory. The advisors who can facilitate these conversations competently don’t just help clients give more purposefully — they deepen relationships, widen the wallet, and position themselves as genuine legacy partners rather than product providers.

The G.I.V.E. Framework is a 4-step conversation system purpose-built for private banking contexts — structuring the journey from uncovering client values, through inspiring vision and building a tailored philanthropic structure, to empowering clients to move from intention to measurable action.

What will you walk away with?

Understand how to uncover client values and philanthropic intent through structured, purpose-driven conversations — moving beyond 'where do you want to donate?' to 'what do you want your wealth to mean?'

Position philanthropy as a strategic component of wealth planning, aligned with legacy and impact goals — integrating giving conversations naturally into portfolio reviews and estate planning.

Develop the confidence and skills to guide clients from reflection to actionable giving plans — applying the G.I.V.E. Framework to move clients who have thought about giving but never committed to a structured plan.

Match client values to appropriate philanthropic vehicles — including DAFs, foundations, trusts, and impact investing — and know when to bring in tax, legal, or investment specialists.

Help clients set measurable goals and track real-world impact using GIIN and IRIS+ frameworks — moving philanthropy from intention to accountability.

What does the program cover?

The G.I.V.E. Framework across four structured modules, applied through breakout discussions, a philanthropy plan pitch, and peer/facilitator feedback.

G — Gather Insights: Client Values & Philanthropic Vision

  • Identify client motivations, passions, and giving priorities — building the full picture of what a client wants to achieve philanthropically, not just what they’re currently donating to.
  • Explore how personal values influence legacy and impact goals — facilitating conversations about what the client wants their wealth to stand for.
  • Use thoughtful questions and storytelling to help clients connect wealth with meaning, legacy, and impact — the conversational techniques that distinguish values-based advisory from product recommendations.
  • Navigate sensitive client discussions with confidence — conversational skills for raising philanthropy in emotionally complex contexts: family disagreements, values conflicts, or clients who have given poorly and feel disenchanted.
  • Address hesitation, complexity, and emotional barriers in giving conversations — recognizing the most common obstacles to meaningful philanthropic engagement and how to address them constructively.
  • Match client values to philanthropic vehicles: DAFs, foundations, trusts, impact investing — understanding which structures suit which client profiles, giving histories, and impact objectives.
  • Collaborate with tax, legal, and investment specialists to enhance the proposal — knowing when philanthropy planning requires a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Position philanthropy within holistic wealth planning through structures that align with client goals and family values.
  • Help clients set SMART goals with timelines, milestones, and measurable impact — converting the values and vision articulated in G and I into a concrete, actionable giving plan.
  • Conduct NGO due diligence and track impact using GIIN and IRIS+ tools — equipping clients with frameworks for evaluating charitable organizations and measuring real-world outcomes.
  • Support clients in moving from intention to action through giving plans, governance, review, and impact measurement.

Why attend this workshop?

Foundational clarity

Philanthropy advisory is still a gap in most private banking training portfolios. The G.I.V.E. Framework gives you a structured, repeatable approach to values-based giving conversations that doesn’t rely on instinct or the client raising the topic first.

Practical application

You’ll pitch a tailored philanthropy strategy as the formative assessment — meaning by the end of the half day, you’ve already built and presented a real plan. Breakout discussions and reflection make skills immediately transferable.

Future readiness

The intergenerational wealth transfer underway in Singapore and Asia is driving philanthropy advisory into the mainstream. Next-generation clients specifically expect advisors to engage with purpose and impact. This capability gap is only growing more important.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need philanthropy expertise to attend this workshop?

No — this workshop is specifically designed for private bankers and relationship managers who are competent at investment advisory but haven’t been formally trained in philanthropy conversations. You don’t need to know the difference between a DAF and a foundation before you arrive; the V module covers these structures clearly in the context of matching them to specific client profiles and goals.

Assessment is an MCQ to support learning completion.
